Onboarding of freelancers/externals - made easy with Make

Smaller agencies in particular like to work with external freelancers to handle tasks that they cannot handle themselves. Although this makes many processes easier, it also brings new hurdles into play: Approvals for projects and access must be distributed, the external employees must be integrated into communication and existing processes, and the whole thing must be undone at the end of the collaboration.

What also makes things more difficult: In smaller agencies, there is usually no dedicated IT/HR employee to take care of these processes. On the one hand, this leads to an increased workload that arises in addition to the actual activity, and on the other hand, a certain susceptibility to errors arises when these processes are handled manually. For example, "data leaks" or other security gaps can occur if accesses are not properly reversed or the external employee cannot work effectively because he or she lacks access or the like, which in turn places an unnecessary burden on time and resources. The solution? Automation - and with Make!

What is Make?

Make (formerly Integromat) is an iPaaS software focused on connecting applications and setting up automated workflows, all through an intuitive visual interface. Make offers a choice of thousands of apps or the ability to connect to any accessible programming interface via its own HTTP app. Workflows can be built from scratch, or Make provides a library of thousands of workflow templates to make setting up automation even easier.

In February 2022 Integromat became Make, why the platform now has a new name and what new features have been added along with the rebranding you can read in this blogpost.

Why Make?

Make - just like other NoCode automation tools - offers the advantage of setting up customized processes and workflows quickly and cost-effectively. Make can be used without prior knowledge of coding/programming. Due to the simple usability, the departments or individual employees can set up the automation themselves and thus individually build exactly the solutions they need. As already mentioned above, Make makes it easy for its users, especially at the beginning, by providing many common processes directly as templates. In addition, the basic package of the tool is available free of charge.

Example solution with Make

  • Linking of all tools/programs in use or their user administration with each other - best via an SSO tool "Single Sign On" (simplest example: Google Account)
  • Upon entering the project, the external user enters his e-mail address, which is then used to create an account in the respective user administrations via automation.
  • If the external party leaves, the same procedure, only the other way round
